Our members are a friendly group of women who enjoy playing golf regularly in a convivial, relaxed environment, on a course that can challenge beginners and more experienced golfers alike. Informal social activities also form an important part of our club life.
We are always keen to welcome new members to our club. Apart from the information on our website, should you have any queries about possible membership, please call one of our members, Sharon Phoenix - 0408 848 635, Ben Traeger in the Pro Shop - 8391 0547, or Rachel in the office 8391 0547; all will be more than happy to help you.
We have a 'Women's Committee' who are responsible for managing our activities including fund-raising, with the golfing programme being organised by our Captain and Vice Captain. Committee members are each elected for a two-year term and are currently:
- Sandra King, President
- Bernie Gatehouse, Vice President
- Ros Basey, Captain
- Jayne Baulderstone, Vice Captain
- Janet Jaensch, Secretary
- Pam Miels, Treasurer
- Margie Secomb, General Committee
Tuesday is the main competition day for women with a field of around 35-40 playing most weeks. Competitions include Stableford, Stroke, Par, Ambrose and Foursomes throughout the year, organised by the Women's Captain. Smaller groups of women also play on Thursdays in a Stableford competition run by the Pro Shop, and on Saturdays as part of the competition run by the Club Captain. There are also other mixed social days scheduled throughout the year where our members are encouraged to play.
Our women are keen participants in the Southern Zone Pennant competition each year, as well as travelling to play in other clubs' Open Days and Golf SA's Country Week.
Our Club Championships are played generally during April-June. Our champions for 2018 are:
- Club Champion & A Grade Champion: Margie Rothenberg
- B Grade Champion: Libby Timmins
- C Grade Champion: Maria Rich
Activities in 2018:
Our Open Day was held in March when 127 players from some 21 clubs around South Australia played at Mt Barker, enjoying a course in great condition as well as delicious food from our club chef. This is a major event on our calendar each year, providing a way to showcase our course to other golfers and to raise funds for club development in a friendly, casual environment.
Other fund-raising activities planned for 2018 include a Bridge Day in August for the bridge fanatics amongst us, a 'Pink Ball' Charity Day in October which is a popular and fun way to help raise much-needed funds to support breast cancer, and a Fashion Parade/High Tea which is in the planning stages.
As a result of our fund-raising activities, in 2018 we provided funds towards upgrading the Club's kitchen equipment, restoration of the clubhouse roof and developing gardens around the clubhouse. All in a good cause!
Apart from these ladies functions, we also actively participate in Club functions to assist with fund-raising - a wine auction night, quiz night and the heli-hover ball drop.
